Landscapes
Beginning in 2015, I've produced an extensive body of highly abstracted mountain landscape paintings, using a graphic, cartoon-like quality and neon bubblegum/pastel palette. Rather than depicting the landscape realistically, I emphasize the artifice in these processes of abstraction. Conceptually this relates to how we tend to experience iconic vistas of the landscape abstractly because of our exposure to mediated images. We've all seen postcard perfect shots of Lake Louise so many times, when we are there in person we're no longer perceiving the scene directly but rather through processes of symbolic representation.
