Landscapes
Beginning in 2015, I've produced an extensive body of highly abstracted mountain landscape paintings, using a graphic, cartoon-like quality and neon bubblegum/pastel palette. Eschewing verisimilitude in depicting the landscape, I emphasize the artifice in these processes of abstraction. Conceptually this relates to how we tend to experience iconic vistas of the Canadian landscape through a sort of semiotic shorthand; i.e. we've all seen postcard perfect shots of Lake Louise so many times, we're no longer perceiving the scene directly but rather through processes of symbolic representation.
